The Beginning
1990

On July 1, 1990, René Hochuli founded the cabinet-making company under the name Bauhaus Muttenz. His goal was clear from the very beginning: to create custom interior finishes and carpentry work of exceptional quality – combined with personal and reliable service.

Under his leadership, the workshop in Muttenz continuously evolved and earned a reputation for precision, reliability, and authentic Swiss craftsmanship.

FAQ

Hochuli Carpentry designs and realizes custom interior finishes for private living spaces, commercial properties, and architectural projects. Our offerings include custom kitchens, individual furniture, built-in wardrobes, doors, bathroom furniture, and complete interior finishes.

Each solution is carefully planned, manufactured in our workshop in Muttenz, and precisely tailored to the architecture, functionality, and character of the respective space.

Yes. We collaborate with private customers, architectural firms, interior designers, real estate developers, property management companies, and businesses in the Basel region and throughout Switzerland.

Our projects range from individual pieces of furniture and apartment renovations to kitchens, offices, and retail spaces, all the way to complete commercial interior constructions. Regardless of the scope, the same high standards of planning, craftsmanship, and execution apply to every project.

Yes. Custom carpentry is at the heart of our work. Instead of adapting a standard product to the space, we develop each solution based on the architecture and the people who will ultimately use it.

Sizes, materials, surfaces, storage, functionality, and technical details are individually aligned. This results in an interior that feels natural, is personally shaped, and has been thoughtfully considered down to the last detail.

Depending on the project’s requirements, we work with carefully selected solid woods, veneers, laminate materials, lacquer finishes, glass, natural stone, stainless steel, ceramics, and Corian®.

Quality, durability, and suitability dictate every material choice. Whenever sensible, we prefer products made in Switzerland and collaborate with established manufacturers and specialized partners whose standards align with our own commitment to precision and lasting quality.

Every project begins with a personal consultation. We take the time to understand your ideas, practical requirements, design wishes, and the intended use of the space. We also discuss the structural conditions, budget framework, and the desired timeline.

Afterwards, we develop a clear design concept, collaboratively select the appropriate materials, and create detailed technical plans. The elements are crafted in our workshop in Muttenz and then precisely assembled. From the first conversation to the final detail, you will be accompanied by a reliable partner.

The duration depends heavily on the scope and complexity of the project. A single piece of furniture or a smaller kitchen can often be completed within a few weeks. For more extensive interior constructions, we typically estimate several months from the initial consultation to the final installation.

Costs are tailored to each individual project. After the first discussion and a careful analysis, we provide a transparent quote that clearly outlines all services. We are happy to discuss realistic budget frameworks and priorities together, ensuring that the solution is both aesthetically pleasing and financially viable.

Yes, we love to. Many of our projects are developed in close collaboration with architectural firms and interior designers. We see ourselves as a reliable partner that implements design concepts with precise craftsmanship and coordinates technical details early on with other trades.

If needed, we also take on the coordination of connections and interfaces to ensure that the overall project runs smoothly and on schedule.

HOW WE CREATE YOUR CUSTOM-MADE INTERIOR

1 · Consultation, Concept & Material Selection

Every project begins with a conversation. We take the time to understand your ideas, requirements, design wishes, and the future use of the space. In doing so, we also consider structural conditions, budget, and timeline, and take precise measurements on-site if necessary. From this emerges a well-thought-out design concept that combines function, proportions, construction, and design language.

Together, we select suitable woods, veneers, surfaces, fittings, and other materials – tailored to aesthetics, durability, and existing architecture. Where appropriate, we rely on high-quality materials and products made in Switzerland.

2 · Detailed Planning & Manufacturing

After approval, the concept is transformed into detailed technical plans. With CAD planning, we define dimensions, construction, fittings, connections, and production details. Production then takes place in our workshop in Muttenz, where modern technology meets decades of craftsmanship experience. CNC manufacturing ensures precision and consistent quality, while material knowledge and craftsmanship give each component the final touch. Before delivery, each element is carefully crafted, refined, and quality tested.

3 · Setup & Delivery

Our team delivers and installs the finished elements with the same precision that has characterized both planning and production. We carefully coordinate the assembly, work cleanly and reliably, and ensure that each element fits exactly in its intended place. Before handover, we check all details, functions, and surfaces. For us, a project is only complete when it proves itself in everyday use and, of course, feels good – functional, timeless, and pleasant for many years to come.
